State sector bill debated clause by clause

12:08 pm on 4 July 2013

A bill that would significantly restructure the state sector is being debated clause by clause in Parliament.

MPs are debating the committee stage of the State Sector and Public Finance Reform Bill that would change the way public services are delivered.

State Services Minister Jonathan Coleman said it would be the biggest reform of the sector in a generation and achieve better value for money.

He said the legislation would give new tools to the State Services Commissioner, the Public Service, and to Government ministers in working together.

Amendments by Opposition parties to the legislation have not been supported.

Parliament has been sitting under urgency for much of the week.
