10:56 pm on 8 July 2013

Legislation has been introduced to Parliament to enact the deal signed on Friday between the Government and SkyCity to build a convention centre in Auckland.

SkyCity will design and build the $402 million centre, and in return, will have its Auckland casino licence extended and be able to operate 230 more poker machines and gaming tables.

Prime Minister John Key says National has the support it needs from ACT MP John Banks and United Future leader and currently independent MP, Peter Dunne, to pass the legislation with a one-vote majority.

The New Zealand International Convention Centre Bill will have its first reading in Parliament on Thursday.
