Telcos want Over The Top providers included in bill

The Telecommunications Forum has told MPs legislation that would force teleco companies to co-operate with the Government's spy agency must also cover providers such as Skype, Google and Mega, known as Over the Top providers.

The bill would impose a regime under which the companies could be penalised for failing to co-operate with government agencies on interception warrants.

The Law and Order Select Committee is hearing submissions on the legislation on Wednesday.

Telecommunications Forum chief executive David Stone told the committee it does not make sense for teleco companies to have to co-operate if the Over the Top providers don't also have to.
