Prime Minister John Key says great progress has been made in Solomon Islands in the decade since a regional assistance programme was started.

Mr Key and Pacific Island leaders are visiting the islands on Wednesday to mark the 10th anniversary of the Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI) programme.

New Zealand and Australia have put $2.5 billion of aid into the mission, which was formed in 2003 after a period of civil disorder in Solomon Islands.

Mr Key has praised the mission for the decade of stability it has provided, and says it has put the country back on its feet. He says New Zealand will continue to provide aid and resources to the islands through the RAMSI programme.
