Caygill puts hand up for by-election

1:48 pm on 27 August 2013

The Labour Party has had its second official nomination for a candidate to stand in the Christchurch East by-election.

James Caygill, whose father is former Labour Finance Minister David Caygill, officially put his name forward on Monday night.

The seat, held by Labour Party MP Lianne Dalziel, will soon be vacant because Ms Dalziel is running for the Christchurch mayoralty.

So far, the only other contender to be the Labour Party's candidate is Deon Swiggs, who works with the Rebuild Christchurch group.

Nominations close at the end of September. The by-election is scheduled for the end of November.
