Press gallery "appalled"

12:03 pm on 29 August 2013

The Parliamentary Press Gallery says it was perverse and disturbing that Parliamentary Service ignored general legal principles in releasing a journalist's swipe card and phone records to the David Henry inquiry.

The Privileges Committee is continuing its investigation into the unauthorised release of the records of Fairfax journalist Andrea Vance to the inquiry that was trying to find out how she got a confidential Government report.

Press Gallery chair Claire Trevett told the committee the gallery was appalled at the cavalier approach taken by Parliamentary Service.

She said the committee should set out clearer criteria for when such records can be accessed.
