New Labour caucus line-up to be announced

7:34 am on 23 September 2013

New Labour leader David Cunliffe says he won't be making change for change's sake when he reveals the party's new caucus line-up on Monday afternoon.

Mr Cunliffe has already appointed two new whips and given finance to his deputy David Parker.

With a general election due next year, Mr Cunliffe says he is not going to be making sweeping changes to the line-up.

Radio New Zealand's Parliamentary chief reporter says he has already given Grant Robertson and Shane Jones front-bench positions and employment and economic development respectively.

Mr Cunliffe says he is not handing out portfolios to his supporters as a payback for their loyalty, which he says may disappoint a few old friends.

He says his decisions are based on who can best challenge the Government in election year.
