Changes to child support rules delayed

9:02 pm on 17 December 2013

The Government has delayed the introduction of new rules for child support for a year because the Inland Revenue Department needs more time.

The changes to the way child support is calculated were supposed to come into effect in April 2014, but has now been put off until the following year.

Revenue Minister Todd McClay said on Tuesday the IRD has told him that the reforms should be delayed due to the complexity of the changes.

Mr McClay said he is not willing to to introduce the changes until he is satisfied that can be done smoothly and without affecting parents adversely.
