Cunliffe corrects medal confusion

12:38 pm on 29 April 2014

Labour Party leader David Cunliffe has corrected public statements he made about medals awarded to his relatives in World War I.

While speaking to the Young Labour Conference on Saturday, Mr Cunliffe referred to his grandfather Robert Clive Tuke whom he said had been awarded the Military Medal.

Mr Cunliffe's office says he confused the names of the medal, as his grandfather had received several medals, including the British War Medal, the Victory Medal and the New Zealand War Service Medal.

However, it was his great-uncle E. Athel Tuke who was awarded the Military Medal.
