$40m pledge for tertiary training

The Labour Party has pledged $40 million to set up 10 Centres of Vocational Excellence by end of its first term in government if it wins the election on 20 September.

The announcement on Thursday is part of its Tertiary Education Policy, which will be unveiled in full in coming weeks.

Labour's Employment, Skills and Training spokesperson Grant Robertson said the Centres of Vocational Excellence would be set up at Institutes of Technology and polytechnics around the country.

Mr Robertson said they would bring together experts in vocational education to ensure people are being trained in the best possible way.
