Employers Assn opposes Govt over KiwiSaver change

9:07 am on 23 July 2008

A northern employers' group is taking on the Government over a proposed law change to KiwiSaver.

The Government has accused some businesses of using an employee's wages to pay the employer's contribution to KiwiSaver, while still taking a $20 tax credit.

It wants to amend the Employment Relations Act to allow employees to make a personal grievance claim if this is the case.

The Employers and Manufacturers Association Northern says this will create inequality in the workplace, because members of KiwiSaver would be paid more than those who won't join, or can't.

The organisation is launching an advertising campaign in two newspapers on the issue.
