No Green candidate for Northland

8:49 pm on 19 February 2015

The Green Party won't be standing a candidate in the Northland by-election.

It said it would rather focus on its nationwide climate change and inequality campaigns.

The by-election set down for 28 March was triggered by the sudden resignation of National's Northland MP Mike Sabin.

The candidates confirmed so far are Labour's Willow-Jean Prime, Mana Party candidate Reuben Porter and ACT's Robin Grieve.

The National Party will select its candidate from a shortlist of five this weekend, for what's historically been one of its safest seats.
