Union sets out election checklist

4:36 pm on 12 August 2008

The Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union says it will be carefully assessing every political party's commitment to workers' rights before this year's election.

National secretary Andrew Little told 1500 people at a stop-work meeting in Petone on Monday that the union will be measuring parties' policies against a checklist it has made.

The checklist sets out what is needed to ensure workers get higher wages and better work rights, and covers areas such as wages policy, union rights and health and safety.

The rally was the first in a series of events in a nationwide campaign to promote workers' rights.
