Bishops issue election guide

3:38 pm on 13 August 2008

Catholic bishops have issued an election guide for church-goers covering topics including same-sex parenting, stem-cell research and euthanasia.

Denis Browne, the Bishop of Hamilton, says it can be difficult for people to decide where to place their votes.

He says his fellow bishops have been very careful not to support any political party, and that the guide is designed to communicate the church's teaching on a number of issues, but it is up to individual Catholics to decide how to vote.

He says people need to look at a wide range of policies when voting, rather than focusing on a single issue.
