Glenn dominates front pages

6:29 pm on 10 September 2008

The appearance of Monaco-based businessman Owen Glenn at Parliament's Privileges Committee dominates the front pages of all four metropolitan dailies on Wednesday.

Headlines in The New Zealand Herald say 'Fact versus fiction - phone records contradict Peters - witness backs billionaire - and Glenn says Winston needs help'.

The Herald says Mr Glenn presented compelling evidence suggesting Winston Peters has lied over what he knew of the billionaire's $100,0000 donation.

The Dominion Post says Helen Clark is set to cut Mr Peters loose after damning evidence that now threatens to drag Labour into the donations scandal.

Mr Glenn says he asked Mr Peters: "did you get the money all right?" to which the reply was: "thank you very much, it was very helpful".

In The Press: Miss Clark says she is concerned by compelling evidence presented by Mr Glenn that Mr Peters solicited the donations.

The Otago Daily Times says Mr Peters will have to produce a compelling performance on Wednesday night if he hopes to rebut the telling evidence of Mr Glenn.

It says Mr Glenn provided a paper trail of phone calls, emails and an independent witness to contradict Mr Peters.
