Govt rules out reinstating Super Fund contributions

9:10 pm on 5 March 2010

Finance Minister Bill English has ruled out reinstating government contributions to the National Superannuation Fund.

Concerns over mounting deficits and falling markets prompted the Government to stop contributing to the fund last year.

But the latest government accounts have been boosted by improved returns from the fund, along with the Government's other investments.

Mr English says the Government's books are still under pressure and is rejecting calls by the opposition Labour Party to restart the contributions.
