Reciprocity on land sales wanted by farmers

7:33 am on 28 July 2010

Federated Farmers says Chinese investors should not be allowed to buy land in this country if New Zealand farmers cannot buy land in China.

The Government has been reviewing the Overseas Investment Act, but has signalled it is unlikely it will change overseas investment rules to make it easier for land to be sold to foreigners.

Federated Farmers president Don Nicholson told Morning Report there are already reciprocal land buying arrangements with other Asian countries.

He said the organisation was not anti-China.
