The Government is back in talks with Australia over the establishment of a trans-Tasman agency to regulate health products.
In 2007, the previous Government was forced to set aside legislation setting up a therapeutic goods agency because it did not have the support to pass it.
The National Party opposed the bill.
Prime Minister John Key discussed the issue with Australian officials in Sydney on Monday.
He says National would support an agency if it exempts New Zealand manufacturers producing for the domestic market only.
