Public opinion sought on advertising of food

Green Party MP Sue Kedgley is encouraging the public to give their opinions on advertising standards relating to children and food.

The Advertising Standards Authority is asking for feedback after an inquiry into obesity and type 2 diabetes recommended a review of the way food and high-sugar drinks are advertised.

Ms Kedgley says a sensible balance is needed when it comes to advertising and children can be vulnerable to media messages. She says it would be simple for the advertising industry to change the earliest time that unhealthy food can be advertised to 8.30pm.
