Courts Minister Georgina Te Heuheu has announced an extra $9 million to upgrade security over the next four years.
The funding will provide an extra 30 court security officers to be employed and the purchase of additional security equipment.
Ms Te Heuheu says funding will help improve safety for court users and staff while maintaining public confidence in the justice system.
The money has come out of the Budget, to be delivered on 28 May.
