A politician who could be National's newest list MP after this weekend's Mt Roskill by-election has described US President elect Donald Trump as anointed by God.

National list MP Parmjeet Parmar and Labour's Michael Wood are among the candidates who will go head to head on Saturday for the electorate seat, after former Labour MP Phil Goff gave it up to become Auckland's mayor.

If Ms Parmar wins, it would also be a win for Misa Fia Turner, who is the next in line on the National Party's list to enter Parliament.

Ms Turner stood unsuccessfully for Mangere in 2014.

She recently wrote on Facebook that Mr Trump had been "anointed for an assignment" and, in another post, "God Bless America! The people have spoken... against all odds!"

RNZ News has repeatedly tried to contact Ms Turner for comment.

National Party President Peter Goodfellow did not comment on the content of Ms Turner's posts.

But he said in a statement that it "seems like dirty tricks from the Labour Party who seem to be worried about losing the by-election in Mt Roskill and will do or say anything to distract from the fact they're struggling".

National had a strong candidate in Parmjeet Parmar, he said.
