Rankin appointment reasons sought

6:22 am on 21 May 2009

A former children's commissioner has written to the Government seeking reasons for the decision to appoint Christine Rankin to the Families Commission.

Ian Hassall says Ms Rankin's appointment was so unusual, that he's written to the Minister of Social Development and the Prime Minister.

Dr Hassall says the appointment is unusual because in the past appointees to the Family Commission have had a long standing involvement with child and family agencies and are respected within that field.

He says he has yet to receive a response to his inquiry.
