Maori Party celebrates fifth anniversary

The Maori Party is marking its fifth anniversary this weekend with celebrations in Otaki.

The party was formed after co-leader Tariana Turia left Labour over opposition to the Foreshore and Seabed legislation.

Maori Party president Whatarangi Winiata says the party's primary aim to repeal the law has renewed focus now that a review of the legislation is underway.

Professor Winiata says the long-term aim is to achieve a party vote equal to that of the Maori population and to include votes from non-Maori.
