The public is being given a chance to have its say on the country's defence forces.
Defence Minister Wayne Mapp and Associate Defence Minister Heather Roy launched a public consultation document at Te Papa in Wellington on Friday afternoon.
Ms Roy says consultation is an important part of the review which will determine the direction of the defence force in coming decades.
Among the issues the review will consider is the role the defence force will play in providing security to the South Pacific region.
Submissions close at the end of August.
