PM against protests outside homes of judges

5:15 pm on 30 June 2009

Prime Minister John Key says he is deeply opposed to plans by a Maori sovereignty group to protest outside the homes of judges.

Ngapuhi elder Tass Davis says he represents a group of kaumatua and kuia who plan to stage protests in courtrooms and outside judge's houses.

Mr Davis says the group is frustrated that the Treaty of Waitangi has not been upheld.

He says protests will take place in July and August and will involve occupying courtrooms and staging demonstrations outside judges homes.

Mr Key says people have the right to protest, but it is unacceptable and unfair to invade the privacy of judges.
