Former All Black Michael Jones has all but confirmed he will enter politics in the future and stand for the National Party.

Mr Jones is part of a Prime Ministerial delegation undertaking a goodwill visit to Tonga, Samoa, Niue and Cook Islands.

Mr Jones and Va'aiga Tuigamala both came out strongly in support of National and its leader John Key during last year's election campaign.

In Samoa, Mr Jones was asked if he has ruled out entering politics. He said he had not ruled it out, but it would not happen soon.

Mr Key says he wanted Mr Jones to stand as a candidate at the last general election and the door is open whenever he's ready.
