Auckland businessman Peter Goodfellow is the new president of the National Party.
He replaces Judy Kirk who has stepped down after seven years as president.
Mr Goodfellow was half way through a two-year term as a member of the National Party board. He was voted president by his fellow board members in Christchurch on Sunday morning.
In accepting the position, Mr Goodfellow paid tribute to Mrs Kirk, saying she helped to rebuild the party after its election defeat in 2002.
He said he plans to continue the work that she has done.
