Government commits to cutting more red tape

1:46 pm on 18 August 2009

The Government has made a further commitment to cutting red tape.

It has released a Statement on Regulation which says new regulation will be introduced only when required and that any unnecessary existing regulations will be identified and removed.

Regulatory Reform Minister Rodney Hide says there needs to be a real attitudinal shift in the way government agencies approach regulation.

Mr Hide says it will be made clear to the public service that the change in government means a change in the way things will be done from now on.

Government ministers have also been put on notice.

Mr Hide says his colleagues will have to certify that any new regulation they propose is consistent with the statement issued on Monday.
