Govt advised to drop restriction on district plan appeals

A select committee is recommending that the Government drop plans to restrict appeals against local council district plans.

The Local Government and Environment Committee has issued its report on Tuesday on a bill simplifying the Resource Management Act.

It has proposed a raft of amendments clarifying aspects of the bill, including scrapping a clause that would have limited appeals against council plans to points of law.

The committee says it received many submissions opposing that section of the bill, and in the end was not satisfied it would deliver fairness and natural justice.
