NZ and Australia announce joint Samoa aid package

10:07 pm on 11 October 2009

New Zealand and Australia have announced a joint tsunami aid package for Samoa worth more than $NZ12 million.

The money will go to the Samoan government to help restore essential services and rebuild infrastructure.

Foreign Minister Murray McCully says the immediate priorities include housing, water, power and roads.

New Zealand will contribute half the total amount of the aid package.

That's on top of the $2 million already donated by New Zealand to emergency relief efforts in Samoa and Tonga.
