The Clutha-Southland electorate has moved from the Todd Barclay incident and has faith in the National Party, newly elected MP Hamish Walker says.
Mr Barclay resigned MP in June after allegations emerged that he had secretly recorded his electorate secretary.
Mr Walker held the seat for National, with a majority of just over 13,000.
"At the end of the day I've come in with a clean slate," he said.
"We've moved on as a party, and obviously the result - an increase in the party vote including in Southland - shows that the people have the faith in the party and are happy with the vision and direction that the National Party is taking this country."
