Range of ACC entitlements pulled back

6:05 am on 15 October 2009

The Government has introduced legislation that will pull back a range of ACC entitlements introduced by the previous Government.

The proposed changes include the removal of income compensation extensions for casual and part-time workers.

That means their entitlements will be worked out from their average annual income - rather than the previous four weeks that they worked.

An entitlement for self-harm or suicide will also be removed.

ACC Minister Nick Smith says while suicide is a tragedy, it's not an accident.

But Green MP Sue Bradford says it's the families of those who kill themselves who will be affected and it's inhumane of National to claw back that entitlement.
