Motorcyclists to ride on Parliament over ACC

4:33 pm on 22 October 2009

Motorcyclists are going to converge on Parliament next month to challenge proposed increases to ACC levies.

Under the new levies, it would cost $257 to register a moped, $511 for a medium-sized motorbike and $745 for a larger one.

The Biker's Rights Organisation of New Zealand voted on Wednesday night in favour of a series of protest rides in city centres and a national protest ride to the Beehive next month.

President Les Mason says it is inevitable there will be some disruption.

He says motorcycle and car levies should be the same.

Mr Mason says there were 6000 motorcyclists at a protest in Wellington in 1993.
