ACC legislation passes first reading in Parliament

Legislation scaling back several entitlements under the Accident Compensation Corporation has had its first reading in Parliament.

The bill delays the date for full funding of the corporation's liabilities to 2019 and makes changes in several areas.

They include the way future earnings are calculated and the removal of financial support for the families of those who committ suicide.

In a separate development, ACC minister Nick Smith said there will be a six-month review of new sexual abuse guidelines, which would legally require ACC to concentrate only on those who suffer a diagnosed mental injury as a result of sexual abuse.
