Savings expected from new procurement measures

The Government expects to realise savings of 5% to 10% when buying work-place equipment for Government agencies.

New produrement centres are being started where specialist teams will negotiate contracts for buying goods such as stationery, computers and cars.

Economic Development Minister Gerry Brownlee says the changes will stop duplication and provide better value for money.

The Department of Internal Affairs will be the first agency to be involved, establishing all-of-government contracts for IT equipment.

The Ministry of Economic Development will then work out contracts for passenger vehicles and stationery.
