Bill proposes greater charity fundraising disclosure

A bill which would make it compulsory for professional charity collectors to disclose how much money is actually going to a cause has been drawn from the ballot at Parliament.

The National MP Amy Adams' Fair Trading Amendment Bill compels those who fundraise for charity to say what portion of a donation is being held back to cover fees.

There are currently no rules on what has to be disclosed.

Ms Adams says the bill applies only to firms fundraising on behalf of a charity, not volunteers who are collecting directly for a cause.

She is hopeful the bill may have its first reading by Christmas.
