Complaints made after MP rides bike without helmet

Updated at 8:06 pm on 8 December 2009

Transport Minister Steven Joyce says he does not have concerns about Maori Party MP Hone Harawira riding a motorbike without a helmet on Parliament's forecourt.

Police are investigating two complaints against the member for Te Tai Tokerau after the incident was shown on television.

Mr Joyce says politicians should always try to set an example, but he does not think the issue warrants too much additional attention.

However, he says if Mr Harawira was riding on the streets, he would be very concerned.
