MP doesn't like changes to polytechnic councils

9:55 pm on 16 December 2009

Labour list MP Kelvin Davis is disappointed with an overhaul of polytechnic councils by the Government.

Parliament on Tuesday debated a bill which would cut polytech councils to eight members, four of them appointed by the Education Minister.

[Waatea News reports that dedicated seats for Maori, staff, students, employers and other community interests in the region served by the polytech will be scrapped.

Mr Davis says this Government does not care about the needs or issues of Maori and the changes would make it harder for polytechs to cater for the needs of young Maori.
