New Zealand and the United States have signed an agreement to collaborate on research into terrorism and other border security threats.
The agreement was signed on Friday in Washington by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and New Zealand Ambassador Roy Ferguson.
Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully says the agreement will help both countries protect their citizens against acts of terrorism and other threats to domestic and external security.
He says it will also allow New Zealand to share in the latest security technologies.
It paves the way for New Zealand transport, security and Civil Defence emergency management researchers to work on projects with their US counterparts.
The United States already has similar agreements with Australia, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Israel and Spain.
