Horomia congratulates Govt on new Maori housing loan

Labour's former Maori Affairs Minister Parekura Horomia is congratulating the Government on its new Maori housing policy.

Under the Kainga Whenua scheme announced on Wednesday, Housing New Zealand will guarantee non-deposit KiwiBank loans of up to $350,000 so people can build relocatable houses on ancestral land.

Mr Horomia told Waatea News it's positive, but noted there are always risks in people taking on such large investments.

"Without being negative, I want to make sure our people get into their own housing, but we have to be realistic that we don't set them up to fail," he said.
