$7.4m worth of gang assets seized

Justice Minister Simon Power says $7.4 million worth of assets have been seized in the first two months of a new law designed to make it easier for the police to crack down on illegal gang profits.

The Criminal Proceeds (Recovery) Act was passed in April last year and came into effect in December.

Since then, six restraining orders have been issued, all relating to drug offences.

Mr Power says the threat of organised crime can best be managed by removing the funding necessary for these groups to operate, and the law is already its proving its worth.
