The Ministry for Maori Development could run the Government's proposed Whanau Ora scheme, says Social Development Minister Paula Bennett.
The Government says Whanau Ora is designed to target all New Zealand families in need by providing them with a one-stop-shop approach to community services.
But the policy is still under development, and more details are set to be revealed in the May Budget.
Ms Bennett says the ministry could run the scheme even though it describes itself as the only government department focused exclusively on Maori.
