Turia caught out over welfare changes

Maori Party co-leader Tariana Turia has been caught out in Parliament contradicting herself over her party's involvement in the welfare changes announced last week.

Earlier this week Mrs Turia, who is also Associate Social Development Minister, claimed the Maori Party had been consulted too late to have any input into the package.

In Parliament, she told MPs she was referring to the fact the National Party had developed the policy before the election and, therefore, the Maori Party had not had any input into that.

But in the interview on Morning Report, Mrs Turia referred to ministers' papers when saying the Maori Party had no real chance to have an input into the welfare changes
