Drink-drive measures to be considered by Cabinet

8:41 am on 11 April 2010

Measures to reduce the number of alcohol-related traffic accidents are likely to be presented to Cabinet as early as May.

Transport Minister Steven Joyce says he is recommending a number of measures, including a zero drink-drive limit for under 20s and repeat drink-drive offenders.

The minister has not ruled out a cut to the allowable blood alcohol limit for adult drivers and says the changes could be law by the end of the year.

Mr Joyce also says a package on youth driving, including raising the driving age to 16, will also be presented to Cabinet later in April.
