Trade Minister Tim Groser is to visit Uruguay later this month to discuss business and investment links with Latin America.
He will also discuss international trade and climate change issues and attend a meeting of the Cairns Group of agriculture-exporting countries.
Mr Groser says New Zealand has a lot in common with Uruguay because both are small agriculturally focused nations.
He says New Zealand companies have begun making significant investments in Uruguay over the past five years, particularly in food-related sectors.
