Finance Minister Bill English says National will not be supporting a member's bill which would remove all remaining tariffs on imported goods.
The bill is in the name of the ACT Party MP Sir Roger Douglas.
Sir Roger says tariffs artificially protect industries that would otherwise be unable to compete, encouraging continued investment in inefficient industries.
Mr English says while he has not considered the bill in detail, the Government is gradually winding tariffs down and is not planning to change that position.
