Prime Minister John Key has told National Party supporters that the new Whanau Ora policy is in line with the party's values.
Whanau Ora is being promoted by the Government as a new way to deliver social services through community based providers.
It will receive $134 million over four years for administration, monitoring and research.
Mr Key told delegates at National's lower North Island regional conference in Masterton on Sunday that Whanau Ora will encourage families to take personal responsibility.
Mr Key said Whanau Ora is about families having aspirations and getting ahead under their own steam.
In that sense, he said, the policy is in line with National Party values.
