Tuhoe iwi members met in Taneatua on Thursday to discuss how the Government has handled the tribe's treaty settlement negotiations.

The meeting followed the Government's decision not to offer Tuhoe ownership of Te Urewera National Park.

Its theme was "Politics is a continuation of war by other means".

The Tuhoe academic Hemi Himene says it is important for locals to support the work being done by their negotiators at a national level.

He describes the decision by the Government not to grant ownership of the National Park as a travesty of justice.
