Justice Minister looks at alternative systems overseas

Updated at 9:00 am on 14 June 2010

Justice Minister Simon Power has left on an overseas trip aimed at examining other countries' systems for handling victims of crime in court.

Mr Power will travel to Germany, Austria and the United Kingdom.

He says he believes the system could treat victims better, especially children and those who have suffered sexual violence.

Mr Power says he doesn't accept the argument that the adversarial approach is the only way to properly test the credibility of the victim.

He says he's prepared to make significant changes to the current system if he sees a better approach overseas.
