Carter told to concentrate on electorate work

2:40 pm on 21 June 2010

The office of Labour Party leader Phil Goff says embattled MP Chris Carter will not be returning to Parliament this week.

Mr Carter was sent home from Parliament last week after he refused to answer journalists' questions about spending on his ministerial credit card and his subsequent demotion within Labour's caucus.

The Te Atau MP had been stripped of his foreign affairs portfolio and relegated within the caucus for the way he used the credit card while a former minister.

A spokesperson for Mr Goff says Mr Carter has been told to focus on constituency work and will not be returning to Parliament this week.
